What is Vault 113?

Vault 113 is a short term murder game set to run for three weeks, based in the Fallout setting. It takes place in the claustrophobic corridors of an underground nuclear vault, designed to house residents after the surface world has been set ablaze in nuclear war. Characters will find themselves waking up in the plain and simple living quarters with a brand new Vault 113 jumpsuit.

Be aware that character death is a necessary part of the murdergame experience and that a golden end is not necessarily guaranteed.

What's the schedule like?

Weekly Mingle - Monday, 12 PM EST.
Midweek Events - Wednesdays, 6pm EST.
Investigations - Friday, 5pm EST.
Trials - Saturday, 5 to 11pm EST.
Executions - Sunday, 5pm EST.

At the beginning of the week, the mingle goes up which serves as a public post to put top levels up and build CR and carry out investigations. Then, an event goes up, when the Overseer calls on you to go about completing various tasks for the vault - which will vary in content between being split into smaller groups or being completed as a collective.

Investigations will go up on Friday, giving PCs a chance to gather all the clues before the trial the next day. PCs will be prompted to vote for who they think is the culprit, and regardless of whether you get it right or wrong, the ones who are voted for are carted off to spend their last night in a cell before their execution the next day.

When will the game start?

Reserves for the game will open Friday, March 31st, at 6pm EST. The application period will begin right after, setting us up for a game start on April 8th. The game is projected to end on April 30th.

What kind of character can I app?

We accept both canon and original characters. We only request that canon characters have a sufficient number of scenes to infer their personality from. There is a cast cap of 2 and a franchise cap of 3. To give a specific example, we would accept two characters from Final Fantasy VII and one character from another entry into the Final Fantasy franchise, but no more than that. OCs will be counted as a single franchise for these purposes - we’ll accept up to three of them.

All characters should be aged 15 or older. The only exceptions are characters from canons in which dealing with violence is part of the child character’s daily reality. As an example, the kids from Promised Neverland combat death and despair all the time. They would thus be appable. A helpless tween kidnapping victim from a horror movie would not be. Just think “is my character equipped to handle these experiences without fully breaking down and requiring the care of other characters?” and go from there. If in doubt, leave us a comment and ask!

What's the AC like?

As Vault 113 is a short-run game, we are expecting a high level of activity in order to be able to play out a satisfying storyline in limited time. To match this, our activity requirement is 20 comments from your character every week. These need to be split among threads with at least two different characters. The comments can come from a maximum of four threads.

To give an example: a single twenty comment thread is not applicable AC proof. A twenty comment thread and an additional thread of any length with a different character is valid. Likewise valid is ‘two threads with Character A and two threads with Character B that add up to over 20 comments from my character’ - though of course we encourage you to RP with a wider range of characters than just that.

Private Conversations, as well as threads from Trial and Investigation are not valid to submit for AC. Any other type of post counts towards the activity requirement.

Is knowledge of the Fallout universe required to play?

Nope, not at all. Characters will have no knowledge of the greater setting outside of Vault 113. (And neither does one of your mods, you are in good company.)

IC Information

What motive will my character have to kill?

Glad that you asked! Getting home is a motive in itself, isn’t it…? Ah, but that is of course not everything! Is there something important your character had to do? A deadline to meet? A world to save? Too bad that they’re away from home then… At the beginning of each week, characters will receive what appears to be visions of life in their worlds going on without them - and things don’t seem to be going well in their absence.

Do characters keep their powers?

Unfortunately, Vault 113 treats characters to the experience of being completely and utterly powerless. Upon arrival in the vault, characters will find that all their supernatural skills have been deactivated and their physical capabilities have been reduced to humanly possible levels, regardless of their usual strengths.

However, there is no forced humanization. Non-human characters will retain their physique, they will simply find that their abilities are lacking. For example, a vampire with super strength would still be able to drink blood but their strength would be nerfed to a level befitting of a professional human weightlifter. Characters with wings would still be able to use those wings to fly to the height a human can jump to, but they would not be able to go further up nor maintain flight for very long.

If you have a specific question about this, please reach out to us in the comments!

What’s the tone of this game going to be like? How dark can I expect the content to go?

About as dark as you would expect a game running on murder to be, but there will be comedic and light-hearted aspects as well. As fitting the black humor of the Fallout setting, the two will inevitably intermingle in a horrifying clash of saccharine horror. Just remember. Escape and a happy ending are entirely possible.

My question isn't covered here!
